What is the reason that the wave-mechanical model is based on the probability of electron locations and not the known location?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because electrons are waves, so they have amplitudes spread out over time/space. which part of a wave is the location of a wave? you cant say, all you can say is its somewhere where the wave has non zero amplitude. hence probability of finding a particle somewhere where its wave is non zero
