okay, first find the common denominator for only the left side. forget the right side for now.

you can always let the math find the common denominator for you. just start multiplying thru by a denominator, like 2

usually, if you work your way form biggest to smallest, you have the possibility of canceling some of the others out as you go, say start with 4 4/4 = 1 and 4/2 = 2 so it cancels them both out at the same time
