What is the solution of x+5/2=15? Show work please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should stive to isolate your variable x on one side of the equation. I order to do that, you have to subtract 5/2 from both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that all i do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fifteen minus 5/2 is 12 1/2, so x is 12 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats all there is, its a one step equation. Whatever there is you need to get rid of to make x alone, do its opposite. In this case, there is plus 5/2, so you subtract it. If it was x-5/2=15, you would add 5/2. :)

so x = 12 and 1/2?

It also matters if there is a parenthesis as well. You didn't put on in there, so the answer of 12 1/2 is correct. If it was (x+5)/2, then you have two steps. The first one, multiply both sides by two, then the second would be to take 5 away from both sides. The answer then would be 30-5=25

yes, x=12 1/2
