@jim_thompson5910 I have 2 questions could you help me?
any ideas?
or were you not able to get started?
I wsn't able to get started I was fine until I got to these two
are you familiar with the terms mean, median, mode?
Yes
how do you find the mean?
Add all numbers up then divide by amount of numbers given
yes, is that possible here?
for the first problem no
because you can't add colors (addition is only defined for numbers)
is the answer mode red
most often = mode
yes because you also can't find the median either
Okay on the second ne what do they mean by outlier
an outlier is some data value that is all by itself compared to the rest of the data the rest of the data points usually group around each other
umm okayy I don't really get it
How do I find it?
here's an example http://mathworld.wolfram.com/images/eps-gif/OutlierScatterplot_1000.gif in that image, all the points follow a certain pattern (more or less) along that line. There is one outlier that is not part of the group
anyways, what is the smallest value?
of that list you're given
31
do I have to find the median and then divide agin by the number of data values
no there is a smaller value
oh 20
what is the mean of the whole list of numbers?
33
Oh okay I think I got it B. 20 lowers it
yes it lowers it by 1.9 outliers on the left lower the mean, outliers on the right increase the mean
Yess I had missed the 20 I had originally thought 31 was the smallest value that's what messed me up
Thank you agian
