When Jack Hodgins started his current job, his employer told him that at the end of the first year, he would receive 2 vacation days. After each year worked, his number of vacation days would double up to 5 work weeks of paid vacation. a. How many vacation days will he have earned after 4 years? b. In what year will he have maxed out his vacation days?
I'm confused. I'm not sure if the answer for a is 16 days or 30 days.
well, the problem says that the number of vacation days would double, so I it seems like we're talking about the TOTAL number of vacation days versus the number of vacation days received.
so what do you think?
that's where I get confused. If he earns 2 the first year, 4 the 2nd, 8 the 3rd, and 16 the 4th year. Then at the end of 4 years the total would be 30 days with him maxing out on the 5 year with 5 weeks vacation.
is that correct?
I think you're overthinking the problem... The problem tells you the number of vacation days would double, meaning the total number of vacation days (not the number recieved) would double.
So at the end of the fourth year his total number of vacation years would be equal to 16...
*vacation days haha
maxing out on the 6 year at 5 weeks vacation. Got it! I was over thinking
yes :)
thanks. I will say year 5 then. Usually work weeks are 5-6 days not a full seven days.
good point... honestly that problem is not very clear at all, but sometime life isn't so clear haha
