OpenStudy (jessicawade):

multiple zeros and multiplicity help. check my answer.

OpenStudy (jessicawade):

f(x)=(x+4)(x-2)(x-4)(x+4) the multiple zero is 2 and the multiplicity is 4

OpenStudy (jessicawade):

no wait other way around lol

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

No. Look, can you please write down the zeros from the factors - x+4 --> Zero is -4 x-2 --> Zero is 2 x-4 --> Zero is 4 x+4 --> Zero is -4

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

Ring any bells ?

OpenStudy (jessicawade):

yes lol

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

So can I hear the answer , I mean READ the answer lol :P

OpenStudy (jessicawade):

but 4 shows up the most and 2 goes into it

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

Actually -4 shows up the most and that too two times :) So the multiple zero is -4 and the multiplicity is two. Multiplicity means the number of times a particular zero appears. Since -4 appears two times, its multiplicity is two :) Likewise, if somebody ask me to tell the multiplicity of 2, I will say it is 1, bcoz 2 comes only once :) All ok ?

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

Any problem in grasping anything ? :)
