OpenStudy (nbarrera):

What is -1.2222229 rounded to the nearest tenth?

OpenStudy (hlambach):

Do you know how to round at all?

OpenStudy (nbarrera):

not really

OpenStudy (hlambach):

Rounding a number means you reduce the digits in a number. Example: 74 -> 70 The reason I didn't round to 80 is because the number after the 7 (4) is less than five. So even if it was a 3,2,or 1 it still would have been rounded to 70. BUT if the number was, say, 75, it would round up to 80, because the number after 7 is greater than 4. So even if it was a 6,7,8 or 9, it would have still rounded up to 80. Get it?

OpenStudy (nbarrera):

yes

OpenStudy (hlambach):

So if you're rounding to the nearest tenth, you are rounding one number after the decimal point. -1.2222223 The number after the decimal point is 2, so the final answer will only have two digits.

OpenStudy (hlambach):

You think you know the answer?

OpenStudy (nbarrera):

yes

OpenStudy (hlambach):

What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (nbarrera):

1.0

OpenStudy (hlambach):

you're rounding to the nearest tenth, so there has to be another number after the 1.

OpenStudy (nbarrera):

1.20

OpenStudy (hlambach):

Let me show you another example. 4.356 rounded to the nearest tenth -> 4.4 The reason in wasn't 4.3 is because the number after the 3 (5) was greater than 4. Think you can do it now?

OpenStudy (hlambach):

Thee you go! But the final answer is just 1.2

OpenStudy (hlambach):

If I helped you, you can best show your thanks by giving a medal. :)
