is gold a mineral
Yes. @jsyjes
Please re-iterate on your answer @Secret-Ninja because I don't believe you. Aren't minerals chemical compounds made from more than one element? Gold is just an element. Please make me understand this one.
Gold is a mineral. You may think of it as a metal, but native gold is a mineral too. It is a naturally occurring inorganic solid, with a definite chemical composition, and an ordered atomic arrangement. humans do not make Gold, but they can melt it to make other things like jewelry.
Oxford university Museum of Natural History proved it. http://www.oum.ox.ac.uk/thezone/minerals/define/quiz/3_ans1.htm
@Schleifspur
ALSO: Minerals are naturally occurring They are not made by humans Minerals are inorganic They have never been alive and are not made up from plants or animals Minerals are solids They are not liquids (like water), or gases (like the air around you) Minerals have a definite chemical composition Each one is made of a particular mix of chemical elements Minerals have an ordered atomic arrangement The chemical elements that make up each mineral are arranged in a particular way - this is why minerals 'grow' as crystals Gold fits all of these descriptions.
you have not 'proven me wrong' or anything :-) I appreciate your effort in answering this question! It's so much better to answer in-depth. I understand now. Thanks!
although gold is not 'a mix of elements', it's just a single element. and that was what awakened my mistrust :-)
