Circle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For what value of lambda , does the line 3x+4y=lambda touch the circle x^2+y^2 =10x

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

im getting \(\large \lambda = 40, -10\) by lagrange multipliers, but im not sure if it can be worked geometrically... lets try..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is 40 and -10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are lagarange multipliers

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats calc3 stuff, they use gradient to optimize a constrained function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay...

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

im not getting any useful ideas to use geometry at the moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we have to use algebra actually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but since we have not learnt calc yet in math , i think it should be solved by using some other method
