OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do I solve this equation? 8.1 = x - 12.5

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

what do you think you need to do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 20.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, i asked how to solve it, not what the answer was. and i have no idea honestly

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

you need to get x alone. So you need to add 12.5 to both sides because the minus sign makes 12.5 a negative. what does that give you?

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

\[-12.5+12.5=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug in 20.6 for x. then just solve the question.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

so now you need to add 12.5 to 8.1. like this \[8.1+12.5=?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 20.6 like i said.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

yes, but you were plugging it in from the beginning. You have to do the adding 12.5 to get teh 20.6 first.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

so essentially, @Algebruhh , you're right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So are you @k_lynn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wish i understood this

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

what part do you not understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all of it idk
