Hey, folks. I'm trying to get into circuits/teach myself a fair bit of circuit analysis and electrical/electronics engineering, and I'm largely doing that by breaking apart broken electronics, looking at and learning about their circuit components, and trying to reverse engineer something similar. Can somebody help me identify some of the components on in these images in a moment?

OpenStudy (mendicant_bias):

I don't really know the notation of stuff, so a lot of questions are going to be about that; I'm assuming every component starting with a C is a capacitor, everyone with an R is a resistor, and every one with a D is a diode? There are also the other ones, particularly U, VAR, NTC, Q, and so on and so forth...that I have no clue about. Anybody with some experience with this able to help me out?

OpenStudy (mstoldegon):

You're right on C, R & D. Q will be a transistor. U is an Integrated circuit (Analog, Digital or Mixed-Signal) VAR and NTC are new to me All of these are called Reference Designators, or more often call Ref Des for short For more info, look up "Reference designator" in Wikipedia.

Awesome, thanks so much.
