Is there a way to access previous open study questions that were answered, which are exactly identical, or very similar. it is inefficient to answer the same question multiple times . And even if not identical, you can get ideas how to solve by looking at older open study questions that are similar. Sometimes i see nobody is answering a question because it has been asked multiple times. so in this case it would be better if he had access to a previous open study, a link say. Also it would be a shame to lose all the open study answers. so much intellectual work. How long is the cloud going to hold all the answered openstudy questions? Maybe some kind of filing system based using query logic to hold all theopen study.
I believe @Abhisar created a search tool somewhere I think this is the link, but idk: http://webyab.hostoi.com/search.html but really, creating such a thing will just lead to mass cheating from those kids in online schools, even now I'm getting visits from some dead questions from like 6 months ago with a new kid asking "so what's the answer?"
hmmm
i havent considered that
none of the old questions are lost btw, they have it all stored up in a giant database only mods/admins would delete questions
yeah cheating is a problem
open study is a grey area , when it comes to cheating. i mean sometimes they are guided questions, then other times its just an answer
open study is a doubled edged sword, it can help and also hurt
really? with all the cheating problems we have around here you didn't consider that kids who want to cheat would take advantage of a search tool? OpenStudy was created for one on one student to teacher interaction, letting them easily view past questions would turn this into nothing but yahoo answers there are plenty of posts clarifying on that gray area, would you like for me to find and show some to you?
yeah, i mean it was in the back of my mind
well here is how a typical question unfolds ,
let me role play with you
i start by 'setting up' the problem
no, I know what you mean, I've dealt with it before -.-
a 'guiding step'
half the time im trying to decipher the question,
i mean the way people post question can get confusing
they save screenshots
one kid got clever with me
she goes ' i want to check my answers'
this was really clever. so randomly guesses (its a multiple choice)
she picks 4, randomly. ok and then she asks me to check it. i say i got different answers
chooses an answer at random, then lets you explain the correct one yeah I know this is a topic for another time
haha
answer fishers
but i think the medal thing is what makes people answer. if you dont answer, you dont get a medal
the first person to answer gets the medal
so who do you think gets the medal. not the person with the 'guiding question'
the fastest one to answer
the majority of the people that come to OpenStudy are like that so when you find someone genuinely wanting to learn, protect them yes, yes, people are trying to game the system by offering medals etc this does not have to do with your original question, save it for another time please
but its all connected, in a way
no. if you really just want to help people because you want to, medals should not matter. admins and mods have enough on their plate rather than to read every single question and give medals to everyone
I've gtg, this is getting off topic, we can talk later about this sort of stuff -.-
A lot of the times you can just Google the question and see It has already been answered.
lets just say... "its a problem"
Joel, right
can somebody tell me what openstudy is, ?
what was the original intent exactly?
to get students to study openly , together ?
they should call it answerstudy
should create cash for homework section in where helpers actually get paid
Yea I agree with you, When im in history trying to explain the truth behind some of the stuff to guide the person, there always that one ********************* who ruins my explanation by saying the answer.
holy , aha!
now youre thinking. this is bad for tutoring businesses
i dont know...
this website has the philosophy of wikipedia
anything goes, answers, pictures of wingspans, whatever
wikipedia doesnt care about rustling peoples feathers
once upon a time, Preetha's daughter was studying for a Bio test, Preetha, who is great at Science, wanted to help. so she tried to give a great lecture on the topic. but tuning her out, Preetha's daughter simply said she would ask her friends. OpenStudy is meant for peer to peer learning, interacting with your friends to learn. btw they are working on a paying system to pay helpers
the cat is out of the bag , in a way
@jigglypuff314 they are working on a paying system, really? and how exactly does it work, can u elaborate
its funny, homework invented a whole new business. tutoring
if teachers could teach, you wouldnt need homework tutors
right? whats going on here
im not against the concept of homework tutor, though
i just think its a bit odd
@jigglypuff314 We know that preetha had a meeting about the helping thing. Tbh I don't think its worth the money. It's to expensive. She should lower the cost to like 1 dollar a question. Some users don't have the money and I will make them irritated that everyone else but them is getting help.
who is the owner of open study
now we're getting somewhere
but, yeah
is there a wikipedia article about open study
this is not yahoo answers, and you should not make it like that if you see someone cheating or"fishing for answers" just report it and they are working on a system of Qualified Helpers users can tag a QH to their question, and get professional fast help for a price and I think we all agreed in the meeting that 1question = $1 joel
right
but here is the problem
what if someone gives guiding tips
doesnt give the answer, writes a similar problem. but does it for free
are you saying this is going to morph into a tutoring website?
i thought the point was that *anyone* can help
everything will still be free, but if someone's question was not looked at for a long time and/or they needed faster help, they can pay for a Qualified Helper
oh, help faster
@jigglypuff314 , how many active developers are building this feature, and when is it expected to launch
wow
@holydragon I do not know how large the coding team is, but they were building it over the summer and I think it is almost done... so within the next 5 months perhaps
i wish i knew more about who owns what, the power structure in the website
is abbot the owner?
@jigglypuff314 do u know how much money were OS paying each developer per year, when they first created the site
Who would be considered a qualified helper?
are there big sponsors to Openstudy
perl... Preetha's the CEO
jiggly, i didnt even know open study was a corporation
i thought it was a non profit
yea perl, nothing is free
holydrgon, try opening a new question asking all this, I do not know the specifics, sorry
well... it should be non profit
@jigglypuff314 Who would be a considered a qualified helper?
qhs will be tested and trained before released I think
and perl it is all still non profit
what other new features are OS teams still working on?
jiggly, you said CEO
who is the Olam family
I've gtg ask your questions and perhaps I'll answer them later
@jigglypuff314 just answer my question quick plz :)
jiggly , take your smart phone
@jigglypuff314 But what do you mean selected and trained? That would make no sense because what if there is a new user who is twice as smart as any other of the QH's. Who would be considered a qualified helper for history? There are so few people who actually "qualify".
(from phone) new feature working on OwlBucks (I think its called) virtual currency exchange thing allows for bump reduction, personalized titles, asking Qualified Helpers, donations, etc
joel, dont know the details yet. something like a knowledge test. take to become a QH they were working on compiling questions for something like that before
oh yeah and @perl Preetha Ram is the co founder of OpenStudy and OpenStudy is part of Inquus Corporation
The search tool is also on official OpenStudy Tutorial Forum http://openstudytutorials.weebly.com
