im a little confused i just need a refresher of how to solve x y -1 0 1 -1 2 1 2 -2 Part B: The function f(x) shown below represents the number of fieldgoals Frank made at different distances, x, in meters, from the post. F(x) = -x + 8 Calculate and interpret the meaning for f(5). (4 points) Part C: Write an ordered pair to represent the input and output of the function in Part B when Frank is at a distance of p meters from the post. (2 points)

@perl

OpenStudy (perl):

ok your function got messed up because you put it in one line

OpenStudy (perl):

hey, i was thinking of functions in real world. can you come up with examples of functions?

OpenStudy (perl):

here is one theres a function between the set of humans and the set of hair colors. each humans has one hair color (lets assume it is not dyed)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

people and their ages...

OpenStudy (perl):

right, can you think of a new one

OpenStudy (perl):

a different one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um cars and their model

OpenStudy (perl):

good one :)

OpenStudy (perl):

lets make it more specific

OpenStudy (perl):

each car has a Vin number, thats like the manufacturing serial number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i dont know really what that is but okay i understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh and the function chart is x y -1 0 1 -1 2 1 2 -2

OpenStudy (perl):

ok

OpenStudy (perl):

so each car has a vin number, its some 9 digit number of whatever. and it is unique

OpenStudy (perl):

so there is a function between vin number and models. how about the other way around

OpenStudy (perl):

there exists a function between vin numbers and car models. is there a function from car models to vin numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um i wanna say yes but i think thats wrong

OpenStudy (perl):

there isnt a function from car models to vin numbers

OpenStudy (perl):

because for one car model, say Toyota, you have many Vin numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay that makes sense yeah
