distance implies what kind of operation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure can you explain this question to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure whenever anyone is asking for "distance", such as the distance of two points what they are really asking is to subtract the two positions. So basically this is asking what equations subtract the two positions of the points. Now these things || are used to imply absolute value, which is basically the positive value of whatever is in it. So |-5| would be 5 and |5| would still be 5. Does this make sense? So one way of solving this problem is to see which equations are equivalent to subtracting the two point. Another (might be easier) method to going about solving it, is to count how far the two are on your number line. Then solve for the values of each answer. The ones matching the distance you counted are the correct answers. Is all this clear or would you like me to walk you through one method?

thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so b and d

I agree with b, but d isn't the difference between the two is it? which method did you end up using?
