Can anyone help me with this problem? log(base 6) 12- log (base 6) 2=???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it equals 1, but i dont know how thats the asnwer

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you start off using rule #2 http://www.purplemath.com/modules/logrules.htm

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

after that, you'll use the rule \[\Large \log_{b}(b) = 1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would you dividde 12 by 2? like log (12/2)???

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you'll then get \[\Large \log_{6}(6) = 1\]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the first equation I wrote was in general for any value of b (but b cannot be 0, it can't be negative, and it can't be equal to 1)

ohhh okay thank you!!
