PLEASE HELP ME! FAN, MEDAL, TESTIMONY

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its either A or C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iambatman can you help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah sure, you know your special triangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not familiar with em, no ):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iambatman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73 please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i see what we need to do what is \[\large \pi-\frac{5\pi}{6}\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if that is confusing, think of it more simply as \[1-\frac{5}{6}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iambatman i always thought this "reference angle" stuff was a bunch of nonsense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're probably right, but it's how we were taught in high school and it stuck around, I'm assuming most people just use it to remember trig stuff, and just to pass the course. But of course there's much more sense to doing such things the rational way if you will I guess.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in any case, \[\pi-\frac{5\pi}{6}=\frac{\pi}{6}\] and that is the "reference angle"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since you are in quadrant II sine is positive, cosine is negative, and therefore tangent is negative as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it C! (: right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah C as always

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the little CAST graph crap they teach to remember the trig functions in the quadrant rather than working through it..bleh.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cosine is the first coordinate, it is to the left, so negative sine is the second coordinate, it is up, so positive tangent is sine over cosine, therefore negative as well
