Law of Exponent: Simplify (-7xy³) (2x²y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you multiply exponents you add them, so for example: \[\huge (x^3)(x^5) \implies x^{3+5} = x^8\]

Now give your problem a shot and see what you get, if you still have trouble, ask.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer will be -5xy² ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You just copy pasted something and it was wrong, actually try it yourself please.

've got this answer : I subtract -7 and 2 since they are opposite sign then I got -5 then I add the exponent of x then got x³ then I also add the exponent of y then it will be y^4 so in all this is my answer: -5 x^3 y^4 . is it correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, why would you subtract when multiplying, what's -7*2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh -14 x^3 y ^4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

See how easy that was now? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.. thanks :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Np :)
