what is an example of an anion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An anion is any negatively charged molecule. For example: \[Cl ^{-}, I ^{-}, Br ^{-}\] etc... These are known as the Halogens and are found in group 7 of the Periodic Table. Basically, anions are easily identified by the negative (-) sign. I have mentioned chlorine, Iodine and Bromine above. There are many more.

OpenStudy (surry99):

Actually when they carry the negative charge we refer to them as halides...chloride, bromide, iodide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chloride, Hydroxide, Oxide and Fluoride.

These are all examples by the way (:

OpenStudy (surry99):

hydroxide is negatively charged but is not a halide.
