|5|=5 |-5|=5 What do these 5's tell us. That both -5 and 5 share the distance of 5 from 0. Distance can be positive or zero, right?

Yes there is only one number we can plug into the absolute function and not get a positive which is 0 so most of the time the absolute value function will output us a positive number |2.1|=2.1 so it certainly doesn't give us the nearest integer also |-5|=5 tells us that too because -5 is an integer no where near the integer 5
