Why was the Battle of Gaugamela an important turning point in Alexander’s conquest of the Persian Empire? answer is Alexander had already prepared the takeover by defeating the Persian army at Issus and captured the Mediterranean coast which eliminated both the threat of Persian fleet to Alexander's rear, and also the source of troops from the western part of the empire. Those were the turning points. Gaugamela was the coup de grace where centralised Persian military power was eliminated, and the remaining provinces could be picked off one by one.
