Which solid has a greater volume? http://gyazo.com/6370f541214d2a59888ae3e3336b3534 @Hero @phi @dan815 @e.mccormick @Compassionate @AriPotta

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Do you know the formula for the volume of a pyramid and cylinder?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (compassionate):

For a Pyramid \[V = \frac{ lwh }{ 3 }\] \[V = \frac{ 5 \times 5 \times 6 }{ 3 }\] And for the cylinder we have \[V = \pi r^2h\]\[V = 3.14 \times 1^2 \times 50\] The radius is one, so we just square it. Alright, so now that we have all that out of the way, we simply solve for both and compare.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So which one would it be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Figure A?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Show me your work. Solve both then post the results.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahh can you just help me out here :p

OpenStudy (compassionate):

To get figure A; solve: \[V = \frac{ 5 \times 5 \times 6 }{ 3 }\] And to get figure B; solve: \[V = 3.14 \times 1^2 \times 50\]

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Basically, all I did was use the formulas and plug-in the known values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A: 50 B: 157

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B is larger?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Correct!
