Which of these sequences is a geometric sequence? 1, 2, 4, 7, 11, 16, 22, … 2, 4, 8, 14, 22, 38, … 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, … 3, 9, 27, 81, 343, 729, …

A geometric sequence is one where consecutive terms are in the same ratio. In the first one, the ratios are 2, 2, 7/4, 11/7, ... which aren't constant, so it is not a geometric sequence. Going through each one like so, we find that the last one (the powers of 3), are a geometric sequence, since term n+1 is obtained by tripling term n.

OpenStudy (catlover5925):

D is in geometric series because they are multiplying by 3 and geometric series is always multipication

OpenStudy (catlover5925):

Geometric series is always multiplying consecutively and artmetic is adding
