WILL MEDAL! Which sets of numbers are closed under addition? Choose all answers that are correct. A. whole numbers B. natural numbers C. negative integers D. integers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an if you can explain as well..

OpenStudy (kiakat):

when something is "closed under" it means that if you apply that operation to the set of numbers, you always get another number from that same set.

OpenStudy (kiakat):

and you can only get a number of that set from that operation, no other ones.

OpenStudy (kiakat):

here, this should help http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/52452.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (kiakat):

no problem ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it a and b and...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no wait is it A, B ,C ,and D

OpenStudy (kiakat):

I don't think it'd be D because integers include negative numbers

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

not sure about that - i'd have to check but I think integers are closed under addition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya but if you add a integer with another integer it will always be an integer right?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is closed

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

i agree

OpenStudy (kiakat):

oh yeah, that would make sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks both of you so much!

OpenStudy (kiakat):

no problem! I learned something too :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cwrw238 since i cant medal 2 people, i fanned you!
