What would someone have to do to become a moderator?
How to become a Moderator: First rule: You must be 18+, due to legal issues. Second rule: You have to be, and act mature. Then you have to win the respect of this community through interaction, knowledge and the ability to interact and intervene in an appropriate manner. It is in big part based on participation, courtesy and respect. The most important thing is that you let the administrators and moderators know that you can see things going awry, and that you are willing to make some effort to solve/prevent it. And certainly NOT in a way like messaging them about how bad you want to be a moderator (this will only work contradictory), but they have to notice that you are up for the job. Then, when they decide they need more moderators, you might get asked. ◘ Being on the site for a fair amount of time. (usually more than 6 months) ◘ Be an good and active user on the site ◘ Having a squeaky clean abuse record. ◘ Have good rapport with fellow users. ◘ Having a good sense of justice. ◘ Being an expert in some field. Most of the mods are math geniuses. But any subject would suffice. ◘ Doing a great job in the ambassador program. In the ambassador training period, you'll learn how the rules work on OpenStudy and you'll learn how to make the right decisions. ◘ Hope you'll get lucky when they decide to add more moderators! source: thomaster
to become a mod you need to prove that you're reliable (thats easier said than done)
As far as I know, only one person has ever blocked me, and it was quite recent. I suspect that they were upset when I suggested for them to close a spam question that they posted. I guess I'll also have to wait until I am 18.
I'm confused... what does someone blocking you have to do with being a mod?
It says to have a squeaky clean record.
blocking isn't really on the record mods get blocked all the time xD clean record as in no suspensions and warnings
I was just wondering this because i wanted to be a moderator, and I though that you had to have a 99 Smart Score or something, but then I saw a moderator with a smart score of 57 and was kind of confused. Thanks for the help. :)
You can become a mod by taking a twirl at the Guthix memorial site and tell everyone you're a bunny c:
What?
Oh...
I just wanted to know the qualifications, thats all...
and yeah, SS is not a requirement, although it helps. preetha was in the 70s for forever xD
I guess I would have to wait a few years before becoming a Moderator anyhow. Thank you guys for the explanations, they really helped. :D
I didn't really help, give Jiggily all the credit XD
oh nvm. didnt see someone else wrote an answer.....
*cough* this is awkward....
Do you have to be 18+ to be an Ambassador? And what exactly is it that Ambassadors do?
Wow I just noticed you are an Ambassador. XD
Ambassadors are representatives of OpenStudy. We answer questions from new users. We welcome and greet users. It's our job to be the embodiment of OpenStudy's ideologies. Before I go any further, there are strict requirements you must meet. ◘ Be thirteen or older ◘ Have a form of ID - excluding a birth certificate ◘ Have no serious offenses on your record ◘ If you have serious offenses, an additional process may be required ◘ Have read the Code of Conduct and Terms, and understand the rules Do you meet these requirements? If so, then please read the next part of the process. There are some key behaviors that Ambassadors must express ◘ As an Ambassador, you agree to always be kind and understanding ◘ As an Ambassador you should let users know you appreciate them ◘ Congratulate and award positive behavior, and discourage negative behavior ◘ Lead by example! ◘ Respect the staff - never talk ill of OpenStudy ◘ Never disclose personal information if shared with you Do you feel like Ambassadorship is something you would want to do? Do you want a bright future with OpenStudy? Then become an Ambassador! [NOTE: The application, or form, is often subject to change. A message will be posted in either the Ambassador Group or OpenStudy Feedback with details on how to submit an application] You can contact @e.mccormick , @thomaster , @blues or @hartnn for additional Ambassador opportunities. form link: https://docs.google.com/a/openstudy.com/forms/d/14kZejqKJuYBxuRCxCjwa-rAUtScOYB6KTlrZDmYLTGM/viewform http://blog.openstudy.com/2014/01/30/openstudys-diplomatic-corps/
How can I prove that I am above 13 years of age?
you are required to email them a photo ID when applying to be an ambassador
Oh wow... They require quite a bit of personal information... I don't think I want to give that away. Never mind my question, I am horribly uncomfortable telling anyone anything about myself that will help serial killers of internet hackers find me.
no one but the ambassador management team will see your information that would just be Preetha and e.mccormick
I'm sorry, I was raised with the firm idea stuck in my head that people you do not know are not to be trusted, and say what you will, call me paranoid or anything, but I seriously doubt that I will be changing my mind... I think I ought to close this question by now...
That's alright ^_^ no worries, you are free to think what you want.
To be honest, I feel somewhat discouraged, but I think its best I remain a regular user. Thank you for understanding. Goodbye now. :)
one quick question: how come Satellite has a 100 smart score yet everyone else has 99?
*laughs* you can join @iambatman in the awesome openstudy user but ambassador positions are overrated group xD and SmartScores only allow a certain number of people per number there is only one 100 seat available and Satellite has it :)
thats what i thought, just wanted to make sure. thanks for answering :D
Actually, I don't see IDs. I do not work for OpenStudy. The ID check only goes to admin. For an ID, they prefer a photo ID but they have taken official documents from a school and picture of the person. See, under COPPA, there is a $16,000 fine for them having a person under 13 as an ambassador, that is one reason for doing the ID. Also, if a person wants to troll OS and becomes an Ambi as part of a long term trolling goal, well, this kills that idea. I mean, if they know who you are, it is not a good idea to become a problem.
I'm not a troller, but I don't want my info out there. I hear enough about bad people on the news.
And the mods that are 70 and stuff are actually admins they see if the website is working and stuff.
@Secret-Ninja I don't blame anyone for wanting to keep their privacy. I am just pointing out that as a business, OS has other issues to deal with. They are effectively doing this under internship laws where the benefits you get are in the form of training and experience. They have to be able to prove that they knew who they were dealing with in those situations. This is very different from many other social sites where you make your own sub domain and they give you power to moderate it. It is you being seen as a representative of what a user should be, being a greeter, and so on. OS needs to know who they are saying is these things. And if you don't want to do the internship for privacy reasons, fine.
Oh, and what they do here is minor. On one site I had to have a background check done.
