Semicolons are to be used to separate Clauses.
Example:
-I have a big test tomorrow; I can't go out tonight.
When you are using a conjunction to put together you always put comma before the conjunction.
(Conjunctions - but, and, so, or, etc.)
Example:
-I have a big test tomorrow, but I can come over the day after tomorrow.
