whats the equation
OpenStudy (anonymous):
OpenStudy (mvpriest6):
what do you think
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y + 3 = −2(x − 1)
y = −2x − 1
2x + y = −1
−2x − y = 1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and i think it would be y=-2x-1

well what are the two coordinates first of
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(1,-3) and (-2,3)
OpenStudy (mvpriest6):
what kind of line is it positive or negative
OpenStudy (anonymous):
negitive cuz its goin down

ok, so it would be going -2,3 and 1,-3 not the other way that would put you going backwards with everything ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
okay
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
Standard form is Ax + By = C
A,B,C are integers
for example, 7x + 10y = 3 is in standard form because A = 7, B = 10, C = 3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
okayy
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
Something like y = -2x + 1 is in slope intercept form and NOT standard form.
slope intercept form is y = mx+b

rightt
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
So hopefully you see how B is not the answer they want. They want something in standard form.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yaa
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
Be extra careful with all of the instructions.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it would be 2x + y = -1

plug in each point to confirm
OpenStudy (anonymous):
do i plug in the points on the graph to the equation ? im confused
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
the point on the left is (-2,3)
so x = -2 and y = 3 here
plug x = -2 and y = 3 into 2x + y = -1 to get
2x + y = -1
2(-2) + 3 = -1
-4 + 3 = -1
-1 = -1
so the point (-2,3) is definitely on the line 2x + y = -1. Do you see how to check the other point?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yes to confirm your possible answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes i do thank you n sorry was wrighting it down
