Can someone help me with this question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the values of x, y, and z. The diagram is not to scale. a. x = 81, y = 68, z = 99 b. x = 81, y = 100, z = 54 c. x = 68, y = 81, z = 99 d. x = 99, y = 68, z = 81 My answer is a, but I feel like it is wrong.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what approach did you take to make you choose A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I used the triangle angle-sum theorem.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats what i was thinking of using as well. so that tends to narrow it to a or d what do we know of x and z? they form a straight line ... in this case, one of them is going to be smaller than the other.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if x and z are equal, they would have to be 90 and 90 when we make one smaller, the other has to get bigger .. can you tell me why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say so they can equal 180...but I don't think that's it....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

oh thats it alright. consider: x + z = 180 as x gets smaller and smaller, it gets closer to zero .. therefore z has to get bigger and bigger and gets closer to 180 so, we know x is less then 90, so z has to be bigger than 90 A is the correct option

^_^ Oh good I got it right. I was just checking my work.
