If the gametes produced by a given organism contain 6 chromosomes, how many chromosomes are found in that organism’s body cells?
3
6
12 <-- my choice or 10 but i more leaning on 10
10
sorry i keep loosing connection
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and idk how the question marks got there but it's organisim's body cell
OpenStudy (abhisar):
Gamets are formed by meiosis in which the chromosome number is halved. For example human body cells have 46 chromosomes but human gametes (sperm and ovum) have only 23 chromosomes.
OpenStudy (abhisar):
*Gametes
OpenStudy (abhisar):
So your choice is correct, 12 is the correct answer. Got it ?

so the chromosomes has double the amount than the human gametes?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and yeah i got it and is it alway like that
OpenStudy (abhisar):
Yes, always like this in diploid organisms.
OpenStudy (abhisar):
In haploid organisms (like most algae), no of chromosome in body cells and gamete cells is same.

oh okay thanks!
