it was something like this
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
|dw:1415545954430:dw|
if x=60 what is y+z
OpenStudy (aripotta):
were all angles 60 degrees?
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
no
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
that was all that was given

do you answer choices
Nnesha (nnesha):
have *********
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
no it was a grid answer
Nnesha (nnesha):
ok so all triangles equal to what
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
180

did they say it was an equilateral triangle? or were the other two sides x as well?
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
nope that was it just the top angle that i labeled 60 was x

Write y and z in terms of the angles inside the triangle - it should then become obvious how to answer this
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
use exterior angle theorem
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
@sleepyjess - do you understand?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
no
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
exterior angle theorem states that the exterior angle on a triangle is equal to the sum of the two opposite interior angles
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
i.e.:\[y=60+b\]\[z=60+a\]
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
now compute what y+z equals
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
wouldnt you have to know what a and b is though?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):
no - you will see in a minute why not - what does y+z equal?
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
y+z=120+a+b?
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
correct
now use the fact that the sum of the angles in a triangle equals 180
OpenStudy (aripotta):
oooh i see now
OpenStudy (aripotta):
and 180 = 60 + a + b, we know that a + b must equal 120
so 120 + 120, right?

yes - but I was hoping that @sleepyjess would answer this :)
OpenStudy (aripotta):
oh ._. sorry
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
@sleepyjess - are you following along?
OpenStudy (sleepyjess):
i think so
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
ok - great - let me know if you need any further explanation :)

which part confuses you @Nnesha ?
Nnesha (nnesha):
y+z=120+a+b?
180 = 60 + a + b <----------------- this part x+y+z = 180 right
OpenStudy (asnaseer):
|dw:1415547212177:dw|
these add up to 180
