Which sentence is punctuated correctly? A. I have one project for myself this summer; to research my family tree. B. I have one project for myself this summer: to research my family tree. C. I have one project for myself this summer, to research my family tree. D. I have one project for myself; this summer to research my family tree.
I think it is A too. Not because of the 2 sentences, but the colon precedes The Smiths. If a quotation is introduced by an independent clause--especially if the quotation is, itself, an independent clause--we use a colon instead of a comma or a period.
A is the correct answer
