Explain Surface Area to volume ratios please??

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

ok. my biology teacher stresses this too so here goes. in all the different structures in the cell, many of them have folds in their outer layers. if they are streched out to their actual size, they can be very large. but, because of the sa:v ratio, they are all squenched up in the cell so that they can hold more in a smaller space. this might make it easier for you to understand: for example, your large intestine is acutally a couple of meters long, but because it has all of those folds in it, it can fit inside of your body and hold as much as it needs to. hope this helps!!
