help me graph a line? medal
algebra 3x-y=6
subtract 3x from both sides you have -y=-3x+6
then just divide out the negative
when you subtract you get -y=-x+3?
when you subtract 3x you move it to the right
oh okay
3x - 2y = 6 They want you to graph this line. But first you need to convert this equation into slope intercept form. Slope Intercept Form: y = mx + b 3x - 2y = 6 Subtract 3x from both sides -2y = -3x + 6 Divide both sides by -2 y = 3/2x - 3
you subtract from both sides so subtracting -3x from the left leaves you -y and subtracting from the right leave you 6-3x
oh okay thank you. you guys are life savers.
@michaelvelarde you are forgetting -2y
oops didnt notice it was -2y
yeah subtracting 3x from 3x-2y leaves -2y and makes the right 6-3x
y = 3/2x - 3 would be the correct form. Use this to graph the line Slope = 3/2 y-intercept = -3 If you need help graphing, let me know :P
is this correct?
Yes, that's correct
@michaelvelarde -3/2x is no longer negative. When you divided -3x by -2, the negatives cancelled out and it converted to a positive. Also you forgot to add the x.
All you have to remember for this type of lesson is the formula, y = mx + b, and know what each part of the equation means. y = any y point m = slope x = any x point b = the y intercept Just convert the given equations into the y-intercept form and graph c;
thank you that was helpful. (:
No problem :) Glad I could help!
