Find the solution set for the following equation. (square root sign)y+5=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{y}+5 = 0\] \[\sqrt{y}=-5\] The problem is a square rooted value will never equal a negative number. When you square root something, you will always be greater than or equal to 0. So since this says sqrt(y) = -5, this is not possible, so there is no solution.
