decreasing acceleration not deceleration.then what is deceleration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when the value of acceleration is negative, it is called deceleration. This physical quantity is still acceleration, just it would reduce the velocity.

OpenStudy (insa):

one of my book says 'if an object slows down the speed is also changing its sometime called as deceleration' and the other one says that 'decreasing acceleration is not deceleration it means speed increases at a slower rate' now both of these are different. that is where im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Assume a car has 5 m/s^2 acc. so its speed will keep on increasing.now let us DECREASE THE ACCELERATION, to 3 m/s^2, though reduced, it is still positive, so speed will still keep on increasing, this is thus not decelertn, it would be deceleratn if object reduced its speed with time

OpenStudy (insa):

so decreasing acceleration is deceleration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. 'the process of decreasing acceleration is not deceleration' , the process of reducing the speed is. see, acceleratn means speed is increasing if it has a negative value, say acc = -2m/s^2 then it would be deceleration... and for example it wud reduce speed like 10 m/s, next second 8 m/s, next second 6 m/s etc

OpenStudy (insa):

thanks :)

you are welcome
