Two students in your class, Hunter and Maggie, are disputing a function. Hunter says that for the function, between x = -2 and x = 2, the average rate of change is 0. Maggie says that for the function, between x = -2 and x = 2, the graph goes up through a turning point, and then back down. Explain how Hunter and Maggie can both be correct, using complete sentences.

function, between x = -2 and x = 2, the average rate of change is 0. that means f(-2) = f(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that it?

OpenStudy (phi):

you can think of f(x) as a line that starts at x=-2 and goes to x=+2 you start at some y value at x=-2. draw a "curve" that goes wherever (but no "backtracking", but at x=2, it is at the same height as when it started. can you draw an example ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

honestly no, I don't really get the question ._. sorry
