Input in standard form the equation of the given line. The line that passes through (-2, 4) and is parallel to x - 2y = 6 Can someone show me how to solve this?

Nnesha (nnesha):

remember parallel lines have same slope

Nnesha (nnesha):

so what is slope suppose to be for other equation

Nnesha (nnesha):

what is slope of x - 2y = 6 do you know ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x - 2y = 6 in the form y=(-1/2)x+3 we have slope of the line as -1/2 Now the slope of parallel lines are equal . so you have to find the equation of the line whose slope is -1/2 and passes through the point (-2, 4)

Could you show steps? I find it easier to understand that way. Im kind of confused.

Nnesha (nnesha):

ok so first solve equation for y ok |dw:1416073984282:dw|

Nnesha (nnesha):

to solve for y we have to move x and -2 so first subtract x both side |dw:1416074017751:dw| right side 6 and -x you cannot combine because one is variable and one is number
