OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats 50 degrees inside

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one is greater, or less than, or equal to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a isosceles triangle, and you know one angle inside it (50 deg), the sum of all angles in a triangle is 180 deg, so... angle in A equals angle in B which is equal to 65 deg. Now let's find AB, AB = 2*8*cos(65 deg) = 6.762

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry but im not supposed to use sin or cos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you know its a isosceles? its not drawn to scale

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, in order to all the sides in a triangle be equal, all the angles must be 60 deg, which is not in your case, as you have an isosceles triange and an angle of 50 deg inside, the opposite side must be lower than the other sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sides BC and AC are equal to 8, isn't it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok got it but how do i know that the bottom half is larger than 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you have to equal sides, it's an isosceles triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so how di know if its shorter or longer on the bottom than one of the sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the side you want to know is AB which is opposite to the angle 50 deg. This means that the other two angles are equal to 65 deg. 65>50... A smaller angle implies a smaller side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then we can say that AB is less than 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it because the bigger the angle the bigger the opposite side? and the shorter the angle the shorter the opposite side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem ;)
