Directions: Identify five examples of the use of logos, ethos, and pathos in the speech. First, cite specific lines from the speech. Then, indicate whether the lines are an example of logos, ethos, or pathos. Finally, explain the impact the lines are intended to have on the audience. One example has been completed for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd be happy to try to help, what is the speech? What is the example?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

John F. Kennedys Civil Rights Address speech want me to post it on here? @LeeEtchison

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or just give a link to it, whichever you prefer. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It says session cancelled when I click on that link...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay heres another one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay ty. What was the example provided?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Example: We are confronted primarily with a moral issue. It is as old as the Scriptures and is as clear as the American Constitution. Ethos Impact on Audience Kennedy lets the audience know that they are facing a battle that has been around for hundreds of years.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, give me a min and I'll see what I can do. Have you identified any yourself?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I identified one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. "Therefore, I'm asking for your help in making it easier for us to make ahead and to provide the kind of equality of treatment which we would want ourselves." Logos Kennedy is asking the audience to help bring equal equality to all U.S. citizens.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sounds good.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay good, i'm just struggling finding other ones.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Those who do nothing are inviting shame, as well as violence." pathos He appeals to emotion by saying that if you do nothing, you will be ashamed and a target of violence. Does that one make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it does

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where is that located in the speech? I have to highlight it too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

paragraph 10 I think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"The events in Birmingham and elsewhere have so increased the cries for equality that no city or State or legislative body can prudently choose to ignore them." logos Kennedy appeals to reason by saying it is not prudent to ignore current events. Paragraph 9, I think. How about that one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes thanks for the help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you need any more or do you think you can come up with the rest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I can come up with the rest. Thanks so much!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem, glad I could help. (Could I maybe have a medal?) :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! :)
