Write the polynomial in standard form. Then name the polynomial based on its degree and number of terms. 8-4x^2+10x^2+2x

Hi I;m new to this and I'm needing help on some algebra home work. If anyone could help explain this to me that would be great!

OpenStudy (anx):

Standard form looks similar to this with the highest degree(Exponent) being first. ax^2 + bx + c rearrange the equation and combine like terms. you can combine -4x^2 and 10x^2 to make 6x^2 then just set in decending order. BAM 6x^2+2x+8 Now for the degree is just the highest exponent. So the degree is 2 in this case.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i beleive you just need to combine the terms and but it in order like ax^+bx+c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the degree is the highest squared number such as x^5, x^8, x^2, the highest degree in this case would be x^8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But wouldn't that mean that the highest degree is ^2? Cause that's the only exponent I see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i was just giving and example in generaly|dw:1416115556159:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay! Well thank you both for your help and time.. I think I'm understanding it a little better :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok just ask me if ya need anything else
