Can someone EXPLAIN NOT ANSWER how to change y=189x-53 into standard form please NO answers. =)
@StudyGurl14, can you please help I would gladly appreciate it
no answer plz
Standard form of a straight line will look like this: Ax + By = C where A is usually made positive.
thank you for the feedback =)
Can you rearrange y=189x-53 so it looks like Ax + By = C ?
The x and y terms should be on one side and the constant should be on the other side of the equation. y =189x - 53 To bring x and y to the same side we can either subtract 189x from both sides OR subtract y from both sides. Which one should we choose? Remember, my earlier comment that the coefficient of x should be positive.
let me try, sorry I did not respond, so please wait while I 'try'.
I actually am totally lost! Help plz
I think @aum has this ok @KayleeNeedsHelp
@StudyGurl14 , please still help, the more the merrier and your help is more than welcome.
y = 189x - 53 x and y should be on the same side and the coefficient of x should be positive. The coefficient of x right now is +189. So it is already positive and it stays where it is. The y term has to be brought to the x-side. So subtract y from both sides: 0 = 189x - y - 53. The constant term has to be on the other side. So add 53 to both sides: 53 = 189x - y or 189x - y = 53. Now this looks like Ax + By = C where A = +189; B = -1; C = 53.
Oh ok, now I get it, Thank You!
You are welcome.
