what is more addicting in ur opinion??? smoking or cutting urself??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Smoking is more addicting because it is powered by nicotine. nicotine makes the body flow with dopamine, which is the chemical that makes you feel pleasure, or happiness. Once you have done it a few times, it is very hard to stop. Though I have never been a cutter, thats just an internal problem that I think people can stop just by going to therapy. Hope this helps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the physical pain distracted me from the emotional pain. When someone harms themselves, a chemical called endorphins, a natural pain reliever, is released in the brain. This causes a "happy" feeling. well this goes for cutters.........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really want to know cause some of my friends cut and others smoke and they argue over which one is more addicting...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh well I never knew that! Idk I think there's an interesting argument for both of them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me too and i would just like to know other peoples opinion on it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok if you would like i could conduct further research later

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure that would be nice, thanks!

The common symptoms include an intense craving for nicotine, tension, irritability, headaches, difficulty in concentrating, drowsiness and trouble in sleeping, increased appetite and weight gain. A milder form of nicotine withdrawal involving some or all of these symptoms can occur when a smoker switches from regular to low-nicotine cigarettes or significantly cuts down those are the withdrawal symptoms for smoking. I'm trying to compare the two withdrawal symptoms to see if one is more severe or not.

I'd say it varies from person to person.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DONT CUT! CREATE!

Smoking is addictive because of the drug nicotine. Once the body has had a "taste" of the drug, it requires more. That's just a fact. But for cutting yourself, it's not like a drug. It's a mental condition and unhealthy behavior. While both are bad for you and both can be helped given the right therapy, I would say nicotine because of the actual science behind the drug. Though I would have to say that cutting yourself is more dangerous and, like smoking, needs to be addressed immediately.

OpenStudy (haileyd):

Honestly id say cutting because the damage doesnt last forever..it only leaves scars that reminds you of why you were upset in the first place but also because you get a sense of satisfaction and its a stress reliever...smoking idk iv never done that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks for ur opinions and thoughts about the topic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It depends on the reason why you started. For whichever reason you started, you'll use that to justify the habit to yourself. The majority of smokers try to smoke at first because of peer pressure or to be cool or something of the sort. If they can realize that it doesn't make them look cool, then there justification comes out from under them. The thing that pulls you further in is the nicotine addiction. The majority of cutters get started, because physical pain is a distraction from mental pain. Life sucks and some people have a harder time coping than others. Understand that some people bite their nails when they're stressed. This is the same concept only on a higher level with more intense reasons and outcomes. The thing that pulls you in further for this isn't nicotine (obviously), but the adrenaline rush that your body feels when it's in pain. It can have a numbing effect.

thanks u all make really good points

i dont think one is more addictive then the other. They are both difficult to stop. However i do think that it is easier to relapse when youre cutting because its so tied and triggered to your emotions. Some people dont even realize what theyre doing untiil its done.I know many people who have relapsed on cutting after a yr clean but none who relapse on smoking after a year

OpenStudy (alesia/bailey):

They are both addicting, but when you try to stop cutting or when someone takes away "the chosen weapon" you find something that's even worse than before. This I know for a fact, smoking takes over time slowly killing yourself while cutting could be from just inflammation to cutting a vein which could also lead to infection and losing an arm and worse. I honestly never did drugs so I wouldn't know for a fact what's worse, but I don't think that should matter, none is easier to get over and everyone has their own obstacles. Therapy doesn't always work unless you're willing, and some people aren't. But smoking does cause a lot of bad symptoms and death and second hand smoke, and cutting can cause suicidal thoughts or accidentally cutting to deep.

OpenStudy (matlee):

Niether of them are addicting, they are just like talking you can create a good feeling of it, make a habit of it but they are really easy to stop. Happiness isnt created in your head just saying.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do both and I would have to say, smoking.
