Use synthetic division and the given factor to completely factor the polynomial. x^3-x^2-24x-36; (x-6) could someone please help me to understand how to do this? I have looked it up and it is just very confusing :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will help just a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

https://www.mathway.com/ you can use this to solve problems if it still will not works tell me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 +5x+6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see, I use that site, but I would like to know how to actually do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know but as i'm not a native english speaker it is impossible for me to explain

OpenStudy (kamibug):

When doing synthetic division you need to take the opposite of the second term of the binomial. So in this case it's +6. Then you will take the coefficients of each term in the polynomial, which are 1, -1, -24, -36. Then you will set up the problem like this...|dw:1416334382209:dw| So far so good? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kind of, yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this the first right step Kamibug is right

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Okay, then we take the first coefficient and put it under the line. The numbers under the line are multiplied by 6 and the products you find will be put above the line under the next coefficient. So for example, 1 * 6 = 6 so put that product under the next coefficient -1. That looks like this so far ... |dw:1416334582715:dw| Following me? :)
