Given the equations 9x+34y=6 and 2x+12y=9, by what factor would you multiply the second equation to eliminate y and solve the system through linear combinations?

OpenStudy (ashleynguyenx3):

You could just eliminate x first to solve for y, then plug the value you got for y back into one of the equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since you want to eliminate y in the first equation, you need to multiply 12y, in the second equation, by some number that will get you -34y. So 12*?=-34 ?=-34/12 So the factor you are looking for is -34/12.
