PLEASE HELP WILL MEDAL AND FAN! Is the sample representative of the population? population: chocolate consumers sample: surveys inside a company's chocolate bar wrappers that are completed and returned to the company A. representative B. not representative

OpenStudy (vjt):

A

TNX

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no it's not representative because you have volunteer response bias the ones responding are usually either very happy or very angry with the product. The avg consumer won't bother to take the time to do the survey

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A or B

OpenStudy (vjt):

i say A still, but jim makes a good point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SO B RIGHT

OpenStudy (vjt):

what do you think it is?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Of course, you could get some consumers who are a mix of happy/angry with the product, but usually surveys are filled out when there is some motivation behind it. That motivation is usually when the product is faulty and the consumer wants to let the company know in some way. But yeah, it's B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a better way is to randomly pick people who buy chocolate and ask them a few simple questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k its b i am convinced

OpenStudy (perl):

@jim so people who respond to surveys are either very happy with the product or the very angry. this does not represent the 'mean' or average person good explanation
