What is the least common denominator of 5/12 and -9/16?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, are you just trying to get a common denominator? or are you really trying to get the least? are there answer choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No there isn't answer choices and i'm trying to get the least common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can always do 12 * 16.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, what do I do with the negative sign though? This is what confuses me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in the real problem, the whole fraction is negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the question? i think it just stays there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the question is just what is says, but I got -192 and the answer box only takes three characters, so i can't use the negative sign...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see the problem. your are finding the denominator here. the denominator is not the negative, that is the numerator. the denominator would be 12 * 16, which would be plain 192.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks
