how do you change the denominator of 12 3/4 and 5 7/8 Answer today please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I would make it into a proper fraction first. you can do that by taking the denominator and multiplying it by the whole number, then add the numerator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for 12 3/4 we would take (12 times 4) + 3 which equals 51. so the fraction = 51/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are they asking you to multiply the two fractions? or just change the denominators to another number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subtract the two fractions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we would convert them into proper fractions first, so they would be 51/4 - 47/8

i'm sure this will explain it better than I can - http://www.mathsisfun.com/numbers/fractions-mixed-addition.html
