I'm doing Exponential Functions and Their Applications for my College Algebra Course. Does anyone know how to put this problem into a calculator in order to solve it? I can do it on my phone; however, I'm not allow to use it during testing. I have to use a scientific calculator; however, I don't know how to type in the problem correctly. I keep getting the wrong answer. Here is the problem: A=5,000e^0.18 The answer is 5,986.0868156091
one sec i'll do it for you
Thank you so much. The answer should be 5,986.086.
5986.086 yep you got it :)
lolx well thank you very much, but my question is HOW did you type the problem into your scientific calculator in order to get the answer?
use google calculator lol
....I can't during testing...in class. That's kind of the reason why I'm asking.
well if youre using a calculator you wont need A as a will be the final answer
so what you do is
type in 5000 then you should see an E and click that, then you should see something like \[x^y \] click it and enter .18 then you will get your answer of 5986.08681561 and round to the nearest tenth, or whatever you need to do
I typed in 5000 and click e^x, I clicked x^y, and then 0.18. When I clicked =, nothing happened.
Anyone else able to help?
you dont wanna click E^x (x isnt even a part of the equation)
I don't have a button that says "e" only.
what calculator are you using
yeah^
An Electronic Scientific Calculator
So far, I hate it.
buy a texas calculator (costs more but more functions)
for simple scientific calculator you would enter .18 hit "e^x" button then hit mult, then 5000, then "="
i think that isn't a specific type
there are a million different electronic calculators
i want to know which one you have
I typed it as you said and the answer I got was -8,573.99214
The answer suppose to be 5,986.086
Well 5,986.0868156091 to be exact.
well that isn't exact because e is irrational :p
:)
Well according to the book, the answer is 5,986.09 because it rounded.
I can tell you exactly what to hit if you tell me your calculator model
I will take a picture of your calculator on the internet and then circle the buttons you need to push
Well in that case, let me look for the model number lolx
it usually is on the face of the calculator
does it look like this? http://www.math.com/students/calculators/source/scientific.htm
@Natasha.g.2013 , i know what you did wrong, when you hit the "e^x" button you used log instead you have to hit "2nd" first to get to the secondary functions
No lolx It looks more like the second picture in the top row: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=673&q=electronic+scientific+calculator&oq=Electronic+Scie&gs_l=img.1.2.0l7j0i24l3.819.9353.0.11354.21.15.3.3.4.0.167.1207.13j2.15.0....0...1ac.1.58.img..0.21.1269.mwFoSEVYyOE#imgdii=_
well in that case dumbcow is exactly right you are using ln(x) not e^x
:o Omg, you guys are right!!!
I just did it, yay!!! Thank you!! :D I kept asking myself what the 2nd does
lol notice how it is color coded
Makes sense lolx I'm not use to a scientific calculator. Forgive me lolx
that cow isn't dumb at all :p
no problem , glad to help
that was a joke it should have been smartcow
@freckles, i love the irony :)
i like it too
Thank you so much everyone!! Big help! :)
