how do you convert .454545454545 and so on into 5/11?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I'm a little confused, 5/11 is equal to that, but technically it repeates 4545454545 infinitely so when that happens you write |dw:1416508429848:dw| add the line on the top of the 2 numbers that repeat

so now they are exactly equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know if thats what you meant

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you use multiples of 10 if you have x = 0.454545... call this equation 1 then then multiply it by 100 you get 100x = 45.45454545... equation 2 then just calculate equation 2 - equation 1... this will eliminate the recurring decimal 100x = 45.454545.... - x = 0.454545... ---------------------- 99x = 45 now solve for x and simplify
