Can someone help me with this question? Which of the following is the solution set for the conjunction -6 <4x + 2 < 6? A. x < -2 or x > 1 B. x > -2 and x < 1 C. x > -3/2 or x < 3/2 D. x > -3/2 and x < 3/2 Whoever can help me will get a medal and my appreciation.
Okay, a conjunction consists of the word "and", and a disjunction consists of the word "or". So you already know that the answer won't be A or C. We're left with B or D. Lets solve the problem. -6 < 4x + 2 and 4x + 2 < 6 Solve each individual problem. -6 < 4x + 2 Subtract 2 from both sides. -8 < 4x Divide each side by 4. x > -2 Now, for the second. 4x + 2 < 6 Subtract 2 from both sides again. 4x < 4 Divide each side by 4 again. x < 1 x > -2 and x < 1 The answer is B.
Do you understand? (: I'll explain more in depth if you don't.
Thanks you for the help. I'm normally good in math, but I have a hard time understanding inequalities. I really can't thank you enough for putting the time in to respond and hope you have a wonderful day :)
That's how I am, haha. I'm good in certain parts and not so good in others. I think that's how it is for everyone. And you're very welcome! Thank you. You have a good day also. (:
