OpenStudy (mpj4):

a system of two quadratic equations in two variables can have at most four solutions. True or False?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No only two.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm guessing because I'm thinking about it graphically. When two lines cross that's one solution. So ask yourself when you have two curved lines.... how many times can they cross each other?

OpenStudy (mpj4):

2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is also the possibility of no solutions and infinite number of solutions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's the case here

OpenStudy (mpj4):

Well in this question, there are two quadratic equations and 2 missing variables.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it possible to write the equations?

OpenStudy (mpj4):

That's the only information I have.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have to quadratic equations and those two equations are the same then they cross each other at every point which means you can have an infinite number of solutions. So it's possible to have more than 4 solutions.
